Our teams proudly skate at the BIGGBY Coffee Ice Cube - Brighton, owned and operated by Black Bear Sports Group, LLC.

This is a three-sheet facility that services not only the KVHA, but Brighton, South Lyon and Livingston United High School Teams, Harmony Figure Skating, Brighton Ice AAU and Foundry Adult league.

From the front office and back to the Zamboni drivers, they are assisting us and keeping things running smoothly.  The rink administers all adult leagues, open skating, sticks/pucks sessions, and private rentals.

This page contains general information and rink policies in place to keep our players, coaches, trainers, parents and siblings safe both on and off the ice!

BLACK BEAR TV & SCHEDULING HOME GAMES

Deadline:

  • As soon as the game is confirmed and you schedule referees, notify the rink of your games!
  • All game assignments should be submitted by Friday, 8:00 pm for the upcoming Thursday–Wednesday schedule to guarantee its broadcast
  • Games submitted Friday after 8pm and Monday before 3pm for that upcoming week may be included but cannot be guaranteed
  • At this time there is no process to add late games scheduled between Monday after 3pm through Wednesday of the following week
  • There is an upload and audit process on Tuesday Black Bear rink wide; weekly broadcast schedules are posted on BBTV by Wednesday evening.
  • If you cannot find your game, the BIGGBY Coffee Ice Cube Brighton is listed as the Kensington Valley Ice House on BBTV

Important Reminders:

  • Do not contact Black Bear TV directly. This does not improve chances of inclusion
  • If a game is in TeamSnap, it still must be submitted. TeamSnap is not linked to the rink scheduling system or Black Bear TV audit.
    • TeamSnap audits are completed, but to ensure accuracy of the schedule only.
    • If a game is found in TeamSnap, it will be added, but it is ultimately the team’s responsibility to notify us that a game is scheduled. Do not rely on the TeamSnap audit to catch your games.

Non-Compliance:

  • Missing, late, or misdirected submissions will result in games not appearing on the broadcast schedule.
  • Teams who continually request late game broadcasts may have their games removed
  • Having games noted ahead of time makes it more convenient and no last-minute scrambling for anyone upon arrival to the rink

NOTIFY US AS SOON AS YOU SCHEDULE YOUR GAMES!

As soon as your game is confirmed and you schedule referees, send game requests to:

Sydney → sydney@biggbycoffeeicecube.com
Sydney can update the schedule only

Michelle → office@kvhockey.org
verifies when the request to add was sent

RINK POLICIES

Everyone’s cooperation and adherence to these rules will guarantee a safe and enjoyable hockey season.

If an area of the rink needs attending to, notify front office, Zamboni or cleaning staff immediately

Note the restaurant and bathrooms are operated by Chop Detroit, report upstairs issues to them

Heater Usage and Cold Weather Guidelines

  • The building lacks insulation and alternate heat sources
  • Dress warmly in layers and bring a blanket for extra comfort
  • Encourage seniors and small children to watch from the restaurant or mezzanine
  • Regarding the radiant heaters in the stands:
    • These cannot be turned on when temperatures exceed 45°F
    • They are inefficient and cannot be left on for long periods, but they will be on as much as possible during the games
    • If a unit is not on, a gentle reminder to the front office before the game begins is great.

Locker Room and Key Policy:

  • An adult, preferably the head or an assistant coach, must exchange their keys or driver’s license at the office to receive a locker room key
    • If a parent or coach needs their keys or license back, they must exchange it with another set of keys or license from someone on the team.
    • This ensures that teams can keep their items safely locked while on the ice and that the door key will be returned to the rink after the ice time
  • If you find a hazard, broken lock or dirty conditions, inform rink staff immediately and ask players to wait outside
  • Locker rooms must be locked while on the ice, key is kept with the team, not in the door!
  • Lock the door between locker rooms to secure belongings and prevent others from coming through unlocking adjacent locker rooms.
  • Locker room walls are thin, and sound carries, remind your players to be mindful of this
    • The South A and B locker rooms can especially be heard from the lobby restrooms
    • Music is permitted in locker rooms but must be courteous, clean, and non-explicit.

PROPER USE and STORAGE of EQUIPMENT

  • For shared practices or training please notify the Zamboni drivers how many nets you would like to use
  • Soft divider pads are not to be crumpled up and used as shooter tutors, this cracks the padding and causes them to split.
  • After practice, coaches must neatly return pads, tires and other items to the area next to the benches, not on the benches.
  • Rink staff will provide assistance as available, but they are not always able to help put pads away, especially with more games
  • Dispose of trash and ensure that players take water bottles with them
  • Check for sticks and other equipment left behind on both the benches and the locker room
  • Remember to take personal pucks, coach boards and other items with you or they may go missing.
  • 6u and 8u teams using blue pucks should return them to the cabinet
Zamboni Crossing

Ice Surface Protocol

No one is allowed in the Zamboni area

When walking to the East rink door, be aware of Zambonis crossing the path

Players must not go onto the ice while the Zamboni is operating

Wait until the Zamboni doors are closed and an official or coach is present to enter the ice.

Teams should only enter the ice at their scheduled time unless previously authorized by management.

Be mindful of the curfew clock when cleaning up practices. Plan your last few minutes without pucks or only one puck

At the end of ice time a coach should help the Zamboni driver by moving the nets to the side boards and tilting them up after the first lap is made

Caution No Running

IMPORTANT CHILD SAFETY & SUPERVISION!

Non-hockey playing children must always be supervised for their safety and the safety and enjoyment of others.
Children running around recklessly unsupervised in the rink will be asked to be taken to their parents
No climbing, shooting, playing with balls or pucks, or playing soccer/football indoors anywhere inside the rink
Parents should not allow their children to bring balls into the rink, they are welcome to throw footballs, kick soccer balls and dribble outside on the grass or parking lot away from cars and windows
There are security cameras inside and outside the building, damage caused by children will be tracked on security cameras, with parents liable for repairs or replacement.
Children who continue to violate these rules may be subject to suspension if on a team or will not be allowed in the rink as a spectator.
