HOCKEY HAS HEART

Hockey has Heart (HHH) was founded and received 501(c)(3) status in 2003.  They are a small group of volunteers who have either played hockey or have children or relatives that played the game.  All business and fundraising activities, events and communications are managed by volunteers.  HHH does not pay for fundraising, advertising and other services.  Legal, tax and other services are provided to the foundation by hockey volunteers.

Since 2003, HHH has raised and distributed over $2 million to Michigan hockey families facing life altering challenges.

Most distributions from our general funds are $10,000 or less and usually cover non-reimbursable medical expenses or lost wages where primary wage earners have lost income due to illness or accident.

We also hold special benefits for families needing greater assistance.  In these cases, our general fund helps defray expenses by covering credit card processing fees, postage and other event charges so that money earmarked for them is passed through at 100%.

We do not pay for hockey equipment or ice time.

Majority of funds raised come from donations.  We are an approved United Way charity and receive a small portion of funding from individuals who have selected HHH as their target charity.

RITCHIE HOCKEY FOUNDATION

The Ritchie Hockey Foundation was founded in 2009 by Donna & Bob Ritchie in honor of their son, Jason, who was tragically killed in a car accident. His spirit lives on through our work to provide much needed resources to student athletes like him, who play their hearts out.

With corporate and individual donors, they are able to lead skill clinics and award scholarships to deserving student athletes who need our financial assistance to participate in, and learn valuable life lessons through, sports.  They believe that talented and driven young athletes should only be limited by the size of their dreams and the depth of their commitment, never by availability of financial resources.

Applications are reviewed on a case-by-case basis by committee with final board approval for each and scholarship amounts are determined based on need, amount requested and funds available. The Ritchie Hockey Foundation reserves the right not to fund scholarship requests for any reason.
