Our Learn to Play, 6U and 8U programs are proudly sponsored by BIGGBY Coffee!

Our BIGGBY Learn to Play Hockey program is for ages 4-13 & is a fun beginner experience that starts a life long passion for the sport of hockey.

Our focus is growing the game and making Learn-to-Play, 6u and 8u hockey a memorable experience for the kids while building the next generation of youth coaches and players, and keeping the sport affordable for our families.  Utilizing the USA Hockey ADM structure allows for skill appropriate play, which maximizes puck touches, ice time and FUN!

Our hockey family grows stronger and larger each season and we hope you will join us as we create lifelong friendships at the rink!

Players must be able to skate unassisted & stop in a controlled manner before registering for this program.  Over the course of the session, your children will continue learning to skate, stop, fall and get up, plus learn the basics of hockey and using a stick and puck while skating.

Players will receive a BIGGBY jersey as part of their participation in the program.  Hockey socks are NOT included.

Full hockey equipment is required to participate - hockey skates, shin guards, padded pants,  chest/shoulder pads, elbow pads, hockey gloves, a hockey helmet with a full cage, and a neck guard (mouth guards are not required until 12u or older).

One of the best way for kids to start playing is to borrow equipment from a sibling, neighbor, friend, or relative, it helps parents save money until they have to start buying new gear and it helps clear out someone else's storage space!!

Our Learn to Play sessions can have up to 50 kids; they work as one large group with all of the coaches help, or they break out into smaller groups with one or two coaches at each station.  Hockey is a tough sport and repetitions are key to development.   Every practice will work on basic skills - skating, stopping, falling, getting up, stick and puck handling, hand eye coordination, listening, and more.

We constantly evaluate players to determine who is ready to move to a team.   This is offered only if spots are available and the skill level is appropriate.

LEARN TO PLAY COACHES

Our programs are 99% volunteer based and are only a success because of the outstanding efforts of our volunteer coaches. We are always looking for help on the ice for this program.

Our Director will ensure the overall program is organized at every session but the more coaches we have, the more that can be accomplished and the better support the players will receive.

At minimum, our Learn to Play assistant coaches must be registered with USA Hockey as a volunteer (or your adult league number will work), have completed Safesport Training and a background check.  Please send that to office@kvhockey.org
