Ravens Girls Tier 3 Development Teams for 2024-2025

We hope that you are having a great Summer and that your daughter is still interested in hockey!   Since the start of the Ravens program in 2009 we have had almost 2000 girls rostered to teams at KVHA!!  Now is a great time to get the girls involved in the game as we are seeing a focus on the USA National Women’s Team, the PWHL and U of M pushing for Division 1 women’s hockey.    Help us do our part to create female hockey players in our community and throughout Michigan by joining us to play this season!  This email will outline plans for the upcoming 2024-2025 season and options that we have for your daughters.

The Tier 3 Ravens program provides a place for all the girls to both develop and have success while developing lifelong friendships over the course of the season and preparing them for their next level.

The hockey season is lengthy, starting in August and going through Mid-March, but the Tier 3 option is lower commitment, 2-3 skates per week on average instead of 3-5, a few less games, tournaments and travel.  It allows your girls to participate in multiple sports, hobbies and interests while also furthering their development in hockey.    We are committed to building an 8u cross-ice team, and we have enough girls to move forward with the 10u, 12u and 14u tier 3 Ravens teams!!

The ages, teams, head coaches and plans for Fall are as follows:

  • 8u (2016 and younger) Head Coach will be Dennis Whitbeck – whitbeck.dennis@gmail.com
    • Girls should register for our 6u or the 8u BIGGBY half ice program with the boys, this will be their primary team.
      • These teams skate twice per week -Saturday afternoon practices, between 2-5pm and Sunday morning games, between 8-Noon.  The KVHA registration is $125 and there is a $150/month x 6 payments for ice time to participate.
    • If we have 9 or more girls, we will make a separate 8u Ravens team that will be an additional opportunity for the girls to practice and play
    • Team participates in the Michigan Girls Hockey League and play against other girls only teams, they participate in tournaments and can also enter the MAHA State Cup
    • Skates will be Friday and another day to try to avoid overlap with their 6u/8u teams  and will have 2-4 extra skates per month with an extra fee to participate, approximately $125/month
    • The 8u teams can expect to play approximately 10 MGHL league games with a chance for the championship in Mid-March plus scrimmages and tournament games, approximately 6-8 away games
    • A 2016 player who has the skill level may be eligible to play up to the 10u tier 3 team.
  • 10u (2016-2014) Head Coach is Russ Holdridge – ravensholdridge@gmail.com
    • Girls must register with KVHA to participate in the program https://go.teamsnap.com/forms/433764
      • The registration fee is $220 and covers the cost of your daughter’s home and away jerseys, socks to match, coaching reimbursements, league entry fees and administrative costs (teamsnap, rostering, etc).
    • The 10u Tier 3 monthly ice bill is $225 per month and is set up separately in August, payable in full or in 6 installments with the balance needing to be paid in full by February 15.
    • Skates will be on Tuesdays 545-7pm; Most Fridays 530-645p and either Saturday or Sunday.   The goal is for the teams to always have two skates, but they will mostly have three skates per week, at least one of these will be solo ice.
    • Team participates in the Michigan Girls Hockey League and plays against other girls only teams, they participate in tournaments and can also enter the MAHA Girls Tier 3 State Tournament.
    • The 10u tier 3 level has a maximum game count of 40 games per season, but the team will likely get closer to 30 games, half away games, and is dependent on the amount of teams in the league and the ability to set up scrimmage games as the schedule permits.
    • A 2014 player who has the skill level may be eligible to play up to the 12u tier 3 team.  We recommend 2015’s continue to play at the 10u level.
  • 12u (2014-2012) Head Coach is Melissa Anderson – melissalanderson2@gmail.com
    •  Girls must register with KVHA to participate in the program https://go.teamsnap.com/forms/433764

    • Skates will be on Monday 530-635pm; Most Fridays 530-645pm or 715-830pm and either Saturday or Sunday.
    • The 12u tier 3 level has a maximum game count of 40 games per season, but the team will likely get closer to 30 games, half away games, and is dependent on the amount of teams in the league and the ability to set up scrimmage games as the schedule permits.
    • A 2012 player who has the skill level may be eligible to play up to the 14u tier 3 team.  We recommend 2013’s continue to play at the 10u level.
  • 14u (2012-2010) Head Coach is Jim Kirila – kirilaj1@gmail.com
    • Girls must register with KVHA to participate in the program https://go.teamsnap.com/forms/433764

    • The 14u Tier 3 team will skate on Monday 530-635pm; Most Fridays 715pm and either Saturday or Sunday.   The goal is for the teams to always have two skates, but they will mostly have three skates per week, at least one of these will be solo ice.

    • The 14u tier 3 level has a maximum game count of 45 games per season, but the team will likely get closer to 35 games, half away games, and is really dependent on the amount of teams in the league and the ability to set up scrimmage games as the schedule permits.
