USA Hockey Coaches Continuing Education Programs

June 20, 2025 Letter from USA Hockey regarding Coaching Education Programs

Dear Affiliate Presidents,

I hope this message finds you well.

As part of our ongoing commitment to coach development and excellence, USA Hockey is pleased to share updates on our continuing education offerings available to coaches across all levels. These opportunities are designed to support our mission of growing the game by ensuring coaches are equipped with the latest tools, strategies, and best practices.

Our continuing education programs include:

  • Advanced Virtual and In-Person Clinics: Covering specialized topics such as practice design, skill development, and athlete wellness.
  • Online Modules: Credits can be earned at any time and provide coaches the flexibility of obtaining their 5 credits when their schedule allows them.
  • Coach Developer Academy and Mentorship Programs: Providing leadership training and support for developing coaches and mentors within your regions.
  • Level 5 & NARCE Hockey Director Track: USA Hockey events that offer learning opportunities from top NHL/College coaches and USA Hockey player Development Managers
  • Third Party Education: Options for coaches to maintain re-certification and stay engaged with learning through The Coaches Site, Athlete Health Space, CoachingHer, USOPC, and more

These resources are critical in maintaining a consistent standard of excellence across all affiliates, and we strongly encourage you to share this information with your coaching community. Our goal is to empower coaches to deliver positive, age-appropriate experiences that align with USA Hockey’s values and long-term athlete development model.

12/31/2025 is the date that our first group of coaches will be expiring from continuing education. Coaches have been notified for the past two years if they are in the continuing education loop by the USA Hockey website, the USA Hockey coaches newsletter, concentrated email blasts, third-party continuing education opportunities, and Coach-in-Chief district notifications.

The Coaching Education Program in alignment with USA Hockey’s membership Department has put procedures in place to make sure coaches that are expiring in the continuing education loop but have 5 or more continuing education credits renew automatically on 12/31/2025.

USA Hockey’s new Learning Management Platform (https://lms.usahockeylearningcenter.com) is now live for all coaches, Level 4 and 5 coaches can see on their profile that they are in the continuing education loop, they will be able to see how many credits they have earned, how many they need to earn, what continuing education opportunities are available to them, and be able to register for the continuing education opportunities. The new LMS is a one stop shop for all coaches.

If coaches somehow miss all emails, notifications about continuing education and never look at their LMS profile until it is too late – we do have measures in place for those coaches. Coaches will have until January 31st to obtain their 5 continuing education credits. We have made sure that at any point in time a coach can go onto the continuing education website and obtain their 5 continuing education credits in 5 hours via modules that are 1 hour in length each, this means coaches can receive all continuing education credits needed for renewal within 1 day.

If you have any questions or would like assistance in promoting these programs within your affiliate, please don’t hesitate to reach out or contact your District Coach-in-Chief.

Thank you for your continued partnership and commitment to growing the game.

Warm regards,
