100% of the KVHA registration fees are returned to our players and families in the services the association provides. Your yearly season registration fee includes your player’s jerseys and socks and helps cover a lot of other costs for all of the teams during the season.
House players, we recommend registering early to ensure that your child has a spot on a team, as our divisions are in high demand and do fill up. As well, registering early ensures that you can attend the conditioning skates in the pre-season. Squirt and older House players will start skating at the beginning of August with a series of conditioning/skills skates, which are included in the cost of registration. In August we have a series of evaluation/rate/draft skates and then players are drafted onto teams, which are created evenly based on the players evaluation ratings. Teams begin skating together after the draft and the season goes through Mid March.
The Mini Mite and Mites (8u) will begin with skills skates in Mid to late August and we will begin evaluations skates after Labor Day with teams set by the end of September. The ice times are not yet scheduled, but the teams will be skating a combination of one weekday (Tu/W/Th) as well as Saturdays and Sundays.
Beginning in September, there is a monthly ice fee that is separate from the initial registration fee, and the fee is paid through February. The rates quoted below may be changing slightly for the upcoming season but will be finalized by August 1.
The HOUSE Age Divisions are as follows and each has a link to see additional information
BIGGBY Hockey for ages 8 & under
6 & Under – birth years 2017 and younger – Mini Mites
8 & Under – birth years 2015/2016 – Mites
Biggby Coffee and KVHA will continue to focus on making Learn-to-Play (LTP), Mini-Mite and Mite recreational hockey the most fun experience for the kids and to support building great youth coaches. We have an in-house league for everyone 8 and under with a holiday jamboree and end of season jamboree. With program structure all of the kids will get to know each other over the course of the season and will create lifelong friendships. In these divisions we typically have 6-8 teams. Our teams primarily play in house and play the other 7 teams from week to week. We typically have a practice followed by a game. They play half ice or cross ice and the skates are a combination of Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Ice times are 50 minutes, except for Jamboree days, which are longer. Teams can enter tournaments or jamborees but this is an additional expense for parents that is not included in the monthly ice fee, which will be somewhere around $135 per month this season.
Additionally, if your child is in the Mini Mite or Mite Division (8 and under) You can request to play with ONE friend on the same team. More information and the request can be found here.
10 & Under – birth years 2013/2014 – Squirt
If we have 4 or more Squirt teams, we will have an in-house Squirt league, otherwise the teams participate in the Little Caesars league; Squirt teams schedule scrimmages with other teams and are also eligible for MAHA district play to qualify for the State Tournament; Ice times are 50-65 minutes; Practices are a combination of Wednesday/Saturday/Sunday (with 5 ice times over a two week period generally); Teams can enter tournaments but this is an additional expense for parents that is not included in the monthly fee, which will be around $225 per month this season.
12 & Under – birth years 2011/2012 – PeeWee
All teams participate in the Little Caesar’s league with travel to other rinks, can schedule scrimmages with other teams and are also eligible for MAHA district play; There is a mix of 50, 65 and 80 minute practices which includes two weekend sheets every week and then one week night sheet every other week. The ice times will be at Brighton or Hartland; Teams can enter tournaments but this is an additional expense for parents that is not included in the monthly fee, which was $275/month this season.
14 & Under – birth years 2009/2010 – Bantam –
All teams participate in the Little Caesar’s league with travel to other rinks, can schedule scrimmages with other teams and are also eligible for MAHA district play; Practices are 80 minute which includes two weekend sheets every week and then one week night sheet every other week which varies. The ice times will be at Brighton or Hartland; Teams can enter tournaments but this is an additional expense for parents that is not included in the monthly fee, which will be around $325/month this season
For all of the divisions there really is no way to determine how many teams we will have, as it varies from year to year based on how many kids register, how many are moving up from one division to another, how many kids make the jump from house to travel, and how many coaches we have to fill the spots. We will add as many teams as we need if we have kids and coaches to support it.
Currently we have coaches to support one Bantam team, one PeeWee team and two Squirt house teams. If you are interested in being a head coach this season, please submit your application to be a head coach here. You can learn more about being a coach and the coaching requirements through USA Hockey here.
Additionally, in the house program, all divisions, we allow players to play up a division if they exhibit the ability to do so. If you would like to make a play-up request for your child, please learn more and complete the application here.
